Maybe if CCP started selling pitchforks and torches for AURUM their fiscal woes would be over

I started playing Eve in the Summer of 2003, and I remember Pann from those days.
I remember something else as well.
Back then, Eve was a game of wits and skill. In order to succeed, you had to think. You had to plan. You had to persuade. And you had to work hard. The successful players acheived their success because they were good at the game.
Eve was a beautiful game back then.
But over the last few years, things have changed. RMT trading has been more blatant. People can legitimately buy ISK with PLEX. Eve isn't just about how good you are. It's now also about how much RL cash you're prepared to throw at a problem.
Before, when you lost a ship, you had to work out how you were going to replace it. Now, there are people out there who just buy a PLEX, trade it for ISK, and Bob's their proverbial uncle.
But of course, that's not mandatory.
But if CCP go ahead and start to allow people to spend RL cash for special ammo, or standings changes or fancy ships, then for me that's a game changer. It will mean that there are two sort of person playing the game - those who can afford to buy success, and the unsuccessful.
And as for buying standings - whatever happened to idea of actions having consequences?
One more thing.
Does anyone remember this?
Most of us figured it was an April Fools' Day joke. But CCP seem to be treating it as a roadmap.
I guess the joke's on us.

Originally by: Zey Nadar Now about microtransactions, I am not against them per se. Champions online taught me that they are fine when done right.
Champions Online is a fundamentally different game in that it's essentially PvE and co-operative.
Eve on the other hand is at its heart a competitive PvP game.

It's no fun playing in a sandbox if there's a turd buried in the sand.
Eve is a sandbox.
MTs are turds.

Could someone from CCP please explain to me why I shouldn't just write off the last eight years as a waste of time and walk away from Eve right now?

Makes me wonder what is the purpose of the CSM then.
To act as public relations fluff for CCP.
That's how CCP apparently see them, anyway.

I'm fine with Sony buying CCP...
...as long as they put John Turbefield in charge of Eve.
But seriously, who would you rather owned CCP - another games company, or a venture capitalist who knows nothing about games?

If I recall, it was a stickie, but someone unstuck it probably in the hopes it would eventually get buried.
It was never stickied. Even when CCP Pann created the topic, there was no sticky.
It's the sort of thread which needs to be on the first page.

Originally by: Bernice 9000 Question for unsubbers... I understand the general fear and issue with MTs but EVE already has microtransactions for non-vanity items since Plex breaks into ISK. I can see it kind of being an issue if tech 3 ammo was developed and only released through aurum... however since that currency is still available through in game means... and since people will still be traders of any and all commodities... these items would be readily available on the market for normal isk.(it would also prove to be a great isk sink)
So... given the unique market of eve and in-game/real-life commodity that is plex, I really do not see the crux of the problem here. Sorry.
The PLEX trade does indeed allow someone to convert RL cash into an in-game advantage. This is a bad thing.
However, adding non-vanity MTs onto the current situation would make matters worse.
Some of us warned that PLEX trading was the thin end of the wedge, and people laughed at us. I think that we've since been vindicated. The question now is just how thick are we prepared to allow the wedge to get?
At which point does CCP inserting their wedge into your rectum start to hurt?
